General Summary

The Assistant Director of P & E /Planning supervises and coordinates the activities of professional and technical assistants in planning, design, engineering and construction of recreation and park projects. The Assistant Director - Planning will focus on long range planning for the park department insuring that the Strategic Plan is updated and followed.  The Assistant Director will also provide technical support in ArcGIS Database management.

Requirements and Job Specifications

Education Required:  5-year college degree from an accredited college or university.
Area of Study (major) Required:  Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Civil Engineering
Certification(s) Required:  LA Licensed Landscape Architect or Licensed Architect or Civil Engineer (or eligible for reciprocity).
License(s) Required:  Valid LA driver's license.
Years Relevant Work Experience:  Five years in planning, design, construction document production and construction administration with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity; and proficiency in ArcGis, ArcGis database management experience is a plus
Other: *CPSI within 18 months of hire. Thorough knowledge of project management and principals & practices of landscape design,principles of planning, architecture, engineering, construction as applied to assignments; Knowledge of grading, drainage plans; basic surveying, AutoCAD & ArcGis; Knowledge of principles of specification writing;
Knowledge of methods of conducting research and use & analysis of same;
Knowledge of design of recreation & park facilities; Knowledge of public agency bidding & procurement procedures.
